NIGER SEED
Often used as a ‘tonic’ for birds, oil rich nyger seed is becoming increasingly popular and has helped reverse the fortunes of the once diminishing goldfinch.
Offering niger seed is the most effective way of attracting this most colourful of residents and it is also popular with other species such as greenfinch, siskins, dunnocks, and if you are lucky, even redpoll.
It is recommended for year round feeding with regular amounts for those wishing to retain their precious goldfinches, once supplies stop they will look somewhere else.
Being extremely fine, this seed would easily blow off a table and flow straight through a conventional seed feeder, so the recommended feeding method is with a special Nyger Seed Feeder.
